Public-sector and private-practice membership fees are presented separately so applicants can identify the correct structure quickly.
Public-sector membership
For qualifying professionals working in public institutions and academic environments.
Full membership
R1 000 /year
or R83 per month
For a qualifying specialist surgeon, physician or endocrinologist registered with the HPCSA and working in an accredited bariatric surgery unit.
Voting rights: Yes
A physician who is not a registered SEMDSA member pays R2 000/year or R167/month.
Affiliate membership
R500 /year
or R42 per month
For other healthcare workers, including anaesthetists, dietitians, psychologists and physiotherapists, working as part of an accredited bariatric surgery unit.
Voting rights: No
Associate membership
R500 /year
or R42 per month
For HPCSA-registered practitioners who are not part of an accredited bariatric surgery unit, or registrars and fellows with an interest in bariatric and metabolic medicine.
Voting rights: No
Honorary member
N/A
By invitation
May be bestowed on distinguished guests or visitors from outside South Africa after nomination and approval by the Executive Committee.
